Letter to Member; COVID-19 Getting Back To A New Normal (21 May 2020)

May 21, 2020

Dear Member / Friend,

GETTING BACK TO NORMAL
It's great to see that we continue to head back to pre Covid-19 conditions. That of course does not mean we can relax the rules about social distancing and hand hygiene.

UPDATE
As at yesterday in Australia there were 7,079 Covid-19 cases (3,081 for New South Wales), with 100 deaths and 6,444 cases recovered. Substantial testing is being carried out in NSW. Anyone with the slightest symptoms – fever, coughing, sore throat or shortness of breath – should seek medical help from a doctor or hospital, calling ahead to book an appointment or have a test.

As the rules concerning gatherings, social distancing and travel are changing, it is important to continue to observe the rules and keep an eye on yourself as Covid-19 has not gone away. TRAVEL
As from 1 June 2020 intrastate regional travel for holidays can occur as long as social distancing and good hygiene are observed. This is great news for tourism in regional areas; in particular tourism in the Armidale region. We should now be promoting our region to assist the tourism, accommodation and hospitality industries., which have suffered badly as a result of the pandemic.

Visitors can come from all around Australia, though may have to deal with isolation rules upon their return to their own States or Territories.  Hopefully other States and Territories will now relax their border rules.

LIBRARIES, GALLERIES AND MUSEUMS
These will be open to the public from I June. These institutions will need to observe social distancing rules and good hygiene. Returned books will undergo a 24-hour quarantine period.  These institutions will need to work out how many people can visit and how they visit given rules such as the 4 square metre rule.

PLANNING TOOL
Here is a planning tool provided by the Federal Government to assist businesses reopening for business and to be COVIDSafe.  While I appreciate common sense plays a big part in the operation of a business, the planning tool is useful. It also includes a section on accessing support and assistance.

Best wishes and stay distant.
