Dear Member / Friend,
The recession we are about to have is not the one we had to have but is a consequence of the pandemic, predictable when you shut down large parts of the economy. The question now is what do we do with it. What can we all do to maintain low unemployment and growth in the Armidale regional area. This needs to be look at in the short and longer term. The Chamber would welcome input from you in that regard – I will be talking to various business owners and operators to gain their input.
RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION - HOMEBUILDER
The Prime Minister has announced a HomeBuilder program.
Eligible owner-occupiers will be able to apply for a grant of $25,000 to build a new home or substantially renovate an existing home. There are income caps of $125,000 for singles and $200,000 for couples. That is based upon their latest assessable income.
Construction needs to commence within 3 months of the contract date.
There is also a national dwelling price cap of $125,000 for new home construction and a renovation price range of $150,000 - $750,000 in relation to renovating an existing home with a current value of no more than $1.5 million.
The Federal Government anticipates that the program will provide 27,000 grants at a total cost of $680 million.
Qantas is slowly increasing its services to Armidale. Effective 22 June there will be 3 services – Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
COVID SAFE CHECK FOR BUSINESS
The easing of COVID-19 restrictions has led to a large number of businesses reopening. As they do, they should have in place a COVID-Safe Plan. The NSW Government today launched an online COVID Safe Check.
A COVID-Safety Plan template, as well as industry specific guidelines and materials can be downloaded for businesses. Business can check, test and promote their COVID-Safe credentials. They will also be able to display on their premises badges to show they have been approved.
All the best. Stay safe, stay distant.
