Letter to Member; COVID-19. Grant Extension; Arts And Culture; Useful Links (1 June 2020)

June 1, 2020

Dear Member / Friend,

We’re moving forward, more doors open from today, and more businesses are slowly emerging from hibernation. You can travel freely (within NSW) go to libraries, visit museums, and have greater numbers at restaurants, cafes and clubs. Beauty and nail salons can operate, and the rules have been relaxed in terms of weddings, funerals and worship.

Last Saturday the NSW Treasurer announced that the Small Business Grant would be extended to 30 June 2020. The Treasurer, Dominic Perrottet stated that the government was now turning its attention from response to recovery and looking at how best to support businesses reopen and welcome more customers.

You can find the media release here.

To recap. To be eligible, businesses need to:

  • Have an ABN and employ staff as at 1 March 2020
  • Have between 0.5-19 employees and a turnover of more than $75,000
  • Have a payroll below $900,000
  • Be highly impacted as a result of COVID-19, with a 75% reduced turnover
  • Use the funding for unavoidable business costs (utilities, legal and financial advice)

Find full details and to apply here.

I haven’t mentioned the $50 Million Rescue and Restart package granted last week by the NSW Government The package will be delivered in two stages

  • Funding available now to enable NSW not-for-profit arts and cultural organisations to temporarily hibernate; and then
  • Funding available in the coming months to enable NSW not-for-profits arts and cultural organisations to restart operations after the Covid-19 pandemic;
  • The Treasurer when announcing the package stated that the funding was critical to keeping more businesses in business and people in jobs. You should go to the Create NSW website to see how it will work.

If you are in severe financial difficulty as a result of COVID-19 and don’t fit into any rescue package then please let the Chamber know.

All the best. Stay safe, stay distant.
