Letter to Member; COVID-19: JobTrainer; COVID-19 Safety Plan; UNE Partnerships (16 July 2020)

July 16, 2020

Dear Member / Friend,

Today, the Prime Minister announced a $2 Billion “JobTrainer” program. The program is to provide up to 340,700 additional training places to help school leavers and job seekers access short and long courses for retraining and upskilling them into growth sectors with job opportunities as well as provide pathways to additional training qualifications. The courses are to be free or at low cost.

The package will also guarantee support for apprentices, by subsidising their wages in order to keep their training and jobs secure. $1.5 Billion is to be set aside  to expand wage incentive and builds upon the $1.3 Billion package announced in March this year. Both, small businesses and medium businesses with up to 200 employees for apprentices employed as at 1 July 2020 are eligible. This initiative covers 50% of wages paid to apprentices and trainees, up to $7,000 per quarter. States and Territories will be contributing to the package.

For further details see: https://www.pm.gov.au/media/jobtrainer-skills-package-economic-recovery-and-growth though the mechanics of the package are not yet available.
The COVID-19 outbreak in Victoria and South West Sydney has emphasised the need for businesses to have a COVID-19 Safety Plan. For some businesses having a plan is compulsory. Here is a link in relation to creating one and registering as a COVID Safe business: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/covid-safe-businesses

Training Services NSW as part of the strategy to contain the further spread of COVID-19 has identified several customer facing industries as a priority for a funded course in a unit of competency in infection control and prevention. It has invited UNE Partnerships  to apply for a bulk allocation of funded places for the course. The Chamber has been asked to circulate a flyer in relation to this course and to request members and friends who are interested to provide an expression of interest to UNE Partnerships by 10 am Monday 20 July 2020. I appreciate that the notice is short and understand that UNE Partnerships was given short notice. The details can be found here.

Stay safe and stay distant.

Kind Regards,

Anthony Fox
